Tonia is a Cypriot screenwriter, director and producer who loves making films that deal with social and women's issues. She is a member of the European Film Academy and the European Women's Audiovisual Network, Berlinale Talents alumna and one of the artistic directors of Cyprus Film Days International Festival, having also served as vice president of the Directors Guild of Cyprus board. Her short films Dead End (2013) and Lullaby of the butterfly (2014) competed in more than 60 international film festivals together, including the prestigious Locarno, Palm Springs, Cork, Busan, Dresden, Sarajevo, Encounters, Curta Cinema, Drama, and won several awards for Best Director and Best Film. Dead End (2013) is represented by SND Films (Amsterdam) and has been sold to Japan, China, USA, Belgium, Russia and France. Her feature directorial debut Pause (2018), a Cyprus/Greece co-production, represented by Film Republic (UK) and See-through Films (USA), participated in Connecting Cottbus and Mannheim Meeting Place Co-Production markets in 2015 and in the Karlovy Vary Works-in-Progress in 2017. It was officially selected at the 53rd Karlovy Vary International Film Festival for its world premiere. Tonia is now developing several feature films, one of which has participated in Sources2 screenwriting workshop and supported by the Cyprus Ministry of Education and Culture.
Elpida, eine Hausfrau mittleren Alters, befindet sich im Elend einer unterdrückerischen, lieblosen Ehe mit einem Mann, der ihre Gefühle und Bedürfnisse nicht berücksichtigt. Ihr eintöniges Leben wird unterbrochen, als ein junger Maler ihren Wohnblock bemalt. Ihre Phantasie beginnt zu blühen, als sie mit ihren unstillbaren Wünschen konfrontiert wird. Nachdem der Ehemann ihr Auto ohne ihre Zustimmung verkauft hat, wird sie rachsüchtig und gewalttätig ihm gegenüber. Gleichzeitig verändert sich ihre Wahrnehmung der Realität, als sie sich nicht an Ereignisse erinnern kann, die tatsächlich passiert sind.
